Thinkware Parking Mode Battery Backup
All Thinkware dashcams have Parking Mode option built-in. This feature is available when the dashcam has been installed using the hardwire cable. This allows video to be recorded when the vehicle is parked.
When using the Thinkware range of dashcams in Parking Mode the camera will run from the vehicle battery. The dashcam will continue to record in Parking Mode as long as the battery voltage and timer is set:
1. The timer (user adjustable from 6 hrs to 72 hrs – depends on camera model) is set so that the camera will automatically turn off after the set period to save further drain on the vehicle battery.
2. Battery voltage monitor. As the dashcam is running from the vehicle battery a feature has been built-in to prevent the car battery from being discharged so much that you can’t start the vehicle. The off voltage is et through the Thinkware app or desktop programme (Windows or Mac).
The off voltage is adjustable form 11.6 to 12.4 volts and there are also options for 24v vehicles. Depending on camera model, some have the ability to set different off voltages by month – this is useful as vehicles take more energy from the battery to start in the winter. During the winter months a battery’s capacity is reduced by the low temperatures.
When the off voltage has been reached the dashcam will monitor the level over a 5 minute period and if below the set level it will power down.
There is an option to install a lithium back-up battery pack to run the Thinkware dashcam which makes it independent of the condition of the vehicle battery.
To use the iVolt Mini back-up battery the Thinkware dashcam must be installed using the hard-wire cable.
The iVolt Mini is re-charged when the vehicle is running and then powers the dashcam when the ignition is off and the Thinkware dashcam is in parking mode.
