How to reset a Parrot CK3100 handsfree car kit

This seems to be a common question, so here is the method to reset the Parrot CK3100.

It is a common internet myth that you can just reset the CK3100 by holding down the Red and Green buttons (as per the CK3000 Evo). This does not work.

Reasons for needing a reset:

A. If you go to Settings / Paired Devices and already have 5 phones in the list. This means you cannot add a new phone until 1 or more are deleted.

B. The kit is behaving strangely with your phone – there may be a number of reasons for this.

How to perform the Reset:

As there is no dedicated reset function you can accomplish this in one of 3 ways:

1. Go into Settings / Bluetooth / Paired Devices and click on a phone you wish to remove. Press centre knob and scroll down to “delete”, then press GREEN button to confirm deletion. Repeat this process to remove all paired phones not required.

2. Re-programme the CK3100 with the latest Parrot firmware (V5.00c). The CK3100 can either be re-flashed with a USB update cable (which we supply) or you can re-programme it over a Bluetooth connection with the Parrot update tool. Re-programming will remove all paired phones.

3. Remove power from the CK3100 by disconnecting the control box for 5 to 10 mins  (to allow capacitors to fully discharge). This will not remove paired phones, but will allow the CK3100 to start from a known state. You wil still need to remove any paired phones manually.

No other methods will work

After you have deleted one or more phones, search from your phone on Bluetooth and select the CK3100 then pair with the handsfree kit. The PIN Code is 1234. If the CK3100 refuses to remember pairing please see this article: Is Your Parrot CK3100 Installed Correctly ?

Different software versions of Parrot CK3100 may operate slightly differently and some will have issues with connecting to the newer phones, in which case you should update the firmware to 5.00C or later.

At JustCarKits we can update the firmware for you. Please see the following link:

Mail order update

It is also possible to directly re-programme the CK3100 via Bluetooth, using the Parrot software update tool.

My partner has the parrot 3100 in her car. When I call her I can hear her perfectly but she can’t hear me (can hear me very faint, but not enough to understand what I’m saying). I’ve looked through the menu and all volume setting is on full. Could you suggest anything? Thanks.

      Hello Bern,
You have a fault with the CK3100. It is not a software issue.
Check the 10 pin connector on the CK3100. The pins with White and Red are the speaker outputs. Would suspect that the pins do not make full contact. Was a known issue with some of the CK3100’s. Pins can be re-tensioned to cure issue.

Absolute life saver!!! My CK3100 had 5 phones in the Paired Devices list already, and it would just say “pairing failed”! I was considering replacing it with a new kit! I’ve removed 4 of those 5 old devices, and the new one has paired without a hitch. Thanks a million!

I have a parrot fitted in my Astra gtc and when I’m playing music if I turn the volume up it cuts out then comes back on again and the same again. I went to Halfords and the man told me it’s the parrot causing the problem is the right? And if so is there a fix or do I just get it removed?

      Hello Ben,
Without seeing the vehicle it is impossible to tell. Could be a stereo issue or a power supply / poor quality SOT lead causing current starvation.
Proper diagnosis with a multimeter is required.

      Morning Susanne,
      “No Signal”
      Couple of things to try:
      1. If your Parrot is relatively new (was shipped with V5.00C) check the small white plug in rear of screen and make sure it is fully seated (this will not work on the older control boxes).
      2. Reset control box by removing power for 30 secs.

If you still get “No Signal” the control box will need to be re-programmed:

      Update cable

Parrot CK3100 recognises my phone and displays it as paired device. However, my Galaxy S20 + 5G says that the CK3100 device is available, but I can’t get it to pair with the CK3100. I get e a message asking me to ensure that the device is set to pairing mode. Is there a pairing setting in CK3100?

      Hello Andrew,
Pairing is done from the phone.
Check how many paired devices there are in the CK3100
      Check software version
      Check “Goodbye” message

After these are done try some of the special pairing modes in Settings / Advanced

Hi. I have a Parrot CK 3100 and it keeps breaking the call. I connected the phone (Iphone 11) several times but it’s still doing. It’s just hungs up at some point during the call. Any idea would be much appreciated.

    • JustCarKits Reply

      Hello Tamas,
Would suspect software incompatibility – V14 firmware on the iPhone causes a lot if issues.
Please check which firmware version you have in the CK3100. V5.00C was the last available version. It may need updating
If on V5, go into settings and delete connection. Before pairing again set special pairing mode on the CK3100 in Settings / Bluetooth / Pair with Phone / and select “NO Sync”.
Then pair your phone as normal. The phonebook will not transfer but check that the calls do not disconnect. If that works there is a contact issue on the iPhone.

Thank you. I removed all paired devices before I started.
Just tried again and the phone and CK3100 are now paired.
Do not get the “Goodbye” message when I turn off the ignition.
I am using the CK3100 in a 2005 Jaguar and the display says “No service”. Any ideas where to start? Going through the driver’s manual…

        22/07/2021 at 12:27
        • JustCarKits Reply

Good Bye is mandatory and points to an installation issue. Easy to fix. See this link:
          https://www.justcarkits.co.uk/jck_blog/2019/05/15/is-your-parrot-ck3100-installed-correctly/

          Display ” No Service”:
On the newer control box with V5.00 firmware this is likely to be caused by the display connector being loose. It just needs re-seating. There is a small white plug and socket in rear of screen. Push plug into socket with a small screwdriver (gently).

Hi, my parrot has been acting up. I unpaired my phone, now it won’t pair. It makes a series of notices when start up my car and then has a blank screen. Sometimes it will come back on and sometimes it won’t. When it was paid, I still could make and receive calls, I just couldn’t see it on the screen. I’ll try resetting with the pairing code 1234 and see but it’s driving me crazy. No pun intended.

This will be a loose cable in the back of the CK3100 display. Simply re-insert the cable.
The pairing issue can be there are too many phones paired or power wiring incorrect

The Parrot should be wired to turn on/off with the vehicle.
If it does not boot up check the following with a multimeter at the control box:
      CK3100 – Red = permanent 12V, Orange = Switched 12V, Black = Ground
MKi Series: Red = permanent 12V, Orange = Switched 12V, Black = Ground

Also the main reason I am updating the firmware is because the wheel stopped working properly, imagine you are in the agenda, one turn of the wheel will skip several letters so it is so difficult to select what I want in the display 🙁 I was hoping this has something to do with the firmware.

          Hello German,

Error during flash update: Are you using a Dell or Toshiba laptop ? If so, better to use a different make as these are problematic.

The fault you have is a hardware issue – the rotary control on the display is faulty and will need to be replaced. It is nothing to do with the firmware.

If you have an early control box the firmware will need to be updated with an update cable.
Later versions may also require an update or it can be an issue with the cable in the back of the display not being seated correctly.

    02/05/2020 at 18:51
    • JustCarKits Reply

      Hello Chris,

It is possibly a temperature fault with the CK3100, but would check a couple of things first:
      1. Even though the unit looks dead does it connect with your phone on power up ?
      2. Does the CK3100 shut down correctly ? i. e. Shows “Good Bye” when shutting down.
      3. Using a multimeter, measure the voltage on the Orange wire at the control box power plug. Ignition on = 12V. Ignition off = <0.5V.
When ignition wire goes to 12V the CK3100 should take 2 or 3 seconds to power up.
If ignition wire does not go to 12v when ignition is turned on, have a look at the wiring.

Did not even know about the goodbye message until I read this.

The control box may or may not be behind the stereo – it depends who installed it and what vehicle you have

I tried to update version 5 via bluetooth: Connection is successfully established „Bluetooth connection“, „Device Authentication“, „Software verification“, „Flash erasing“ work well.

But the update stops at the last step (software update) with the message „The communication with the device could not be established.”

Parrot provided me with the files ck3100_c.bin and ck3100_c.ulp. Which of these files am I supposed to use? What is the difference? Are these the right files to update via bluetooth? I don’t have a serial cable.

      08/12/2019 at 13:33
      • JustCarKits Reply

For Bluetooth update use the .ulp file

Before attempting update, remove all paired devices form the CK3100 – Settings \ paired devices \ phone x press centre button and rotate to delete then press Green button to confirm. Do this until all paired devices have been removed.

Before attempting Bluetooth update pair your laptop with the CK3100 – (code is 1234) and enable SPP profile if it asks. Avoid Toshiba or Dell Bluetooth stack if possible.

Launch Parrot update tool and follow on screen instructions but before uploading file you need to set the CK3100 into update mode: Settings / Advanced / Software Update / Activate

Version 5.00c is the last available update

The Bluetooth pairing process is done from the mobile phone and NOT from the Parrot.

          Hello Giuliano,
This sounds like a compatibility issue with the phone, as the CK3100 does not initiate the connection.
If the CK3100 is running V5.00c this is the last update available.
There are some special pairing modes available on the CK3100 that can be tried.
Delete current pairing on phone and CK3100
Before pairing again, on the CK3100 go into Settings / Pair Phone / and then select “AT Sync”
Pair phone and let it sychronise.
Turn off CK3100 and see if will then connect successfully

If that does not cure it please try a different mobile and see if that works. If so, then would point to a firmware issue with your phone.

      Hello John,
if the CK3100 is stuck on “goodbye” there are a couple of things that it can be.
best course of action is to locate control box. Check that the permanent is on red cable at 4 pin power plug. Then check that orange lead is 0V or <0.4V when ignition is off.
if these voltages measure correctly, unplug the 4 pin connector and re-insert.
turn on ignition and check the CK3100 powers up correctly. If it doesn't and shows "no signal" the control bix will need to be re-programmed - see separate article on this.
