How to reset a Parrot MKI9200

How to reset a Parrot MKI9200

This seems to be a common question, so here is the method to reset the Parrot MKi9200.

Sometimes it may be necessary to reset the MKi9200. Resetting will remove all paired devices and reset settings back to factory standard. It should be noted that “mute on streaming” option is not altered by a factory reset.

Please note that the remote control MUST be able to be used with the MKi9200. If the remote does not work you will not be able to reset the MKi9200. All MKi remotes contain a CR2032 battery and it is common for people to forget to change them – they typically last a year to 18 months in normal use.

Reset procedure:

1. Turn on the MKi9200

2. Press the centre button on the remote and rotate until you get to “Settings”

3. Enter Settings menu and navigate down to “Advanced Settings”

4. When in Advanced Settings menu select “Factory Reset” and press the centre button on the remote.

5. The MKi9200 will now re-boot. Please note that sometimes it will refuse to erase memory. Simply turn off the MKi9200 and try again.

6. After the re-boot it may be necessary to set the language version again. Simply select the required language from the listed options and press remote control centre button to set the language. The MKi9200 will then re-boot again.

Different software versions of Parrot MKi9200’s may operate slightly differently. If you have a Version 2 control box you can update this to the latest version for that version – V2.20

If you have a version 3 control box you MUST NOT update the firmware. There are no updates for this version.

    Hello Philip

I just bought a car where a parrot MKI9200 was installed. I hooked a USB onto an adaptor present (also has a 3.5mm jack and a Micro SD card socket) and it worked for sound files through the car audio system. However in trying to connect my phone to the bluetooth, I was unable to see my phone. I messed around with all sorts of buttons! Connections to the remote were flaky and things kept dropping out … the remote needed cleaning but it then transpired that the connectors inside were worn and not making good contact . Fixing that meant I was able to upgrade the firmware to the latest version (2.2) and then add my phone. Now it works perfectly through the car (making and receiving calls) and I can see the usb playing music on the display yet nothing comes through the car system (despite the phone calls working). Any ideas please?
    Many thanks
    Regards Adrian

      Hello Adrian,
Can be a couple of things.
Depending on the vehicle in question the MKi9200 might use the AUX on the car stereo for music. Simply play music through the MKi9200 and then increase Parrot volume to 80/90%. Also set Bluetooth music level on phone to highest. Select AUX on car stereo.
If this configuration does not work on your vehicle press centre knob on remote control and rotate until you get to Audio Settings. Scroll down until you find “Mute on Streaming” option. Press centre knob and rotate to “enabled”. Click button to accept and then check that the option now has a tick against it.
Play some music and again max out the level from your phone. Use the volume control on Parrot to adjust level.

        Hello brilliant
It was the mute on streaming option.
I do find that pressing the centre knob always alters the light from day to night and back again rather than going into the settings areas.
        Regards Adrian

Change the battery in the remote – it will be going flat.

Hi, I have the mki9200, and whenever I start to make a call, it displays ‘call’ instead of the person I’m calling, then it shuts off, and restarts again. Iv disconnected and reconnected my phone and reset to factory settings, but it’s still doing it, any ideas what it could be? Thanks

      Hello Melanie,
As a test disable phone book sync in your phone’s Bluetooth settings.
If it then stays connected, troubleshoot phone book corruption on your phone.

I updated my version 3 with a update 2.20. And it keeps saying hardware error. What do I do?

The “hardware error” is caused by installing the incorrect update file. Version 3 control boxes must NEVER be “updated”.
The update has destroyed the MKi9200 control box and it will not be possible to recover it.
Only option is to replace the MKi9200 control box (if you can find a secondhand one).
Alternatively, it could be replaced with a Bury handsfree car kit

I have a Parrot MKi9200. Since a few weeks I cannot play music correctly. I connect my phone with Bluetooth so I can play Spotify. This always went correct. But now It stops during the first song and says not provided. I tried disconnecting my phone, set the settings back but it all doesn’t work.
What can be the problem of this?

    Thank you

      Hello Emmy,
Is this issue with an iPhone ?
Could you try a different phone ?
What software version is on the MKi9200 ?

When trying to reset it to factory settings, I’m asked “do you want to delete all memory” but no button can be used to confirm.

      Hello Herman,
This is an unknown issue. Have seen many, many hundreds of MKi9200’s and never seen this on the display.
Does the MKi9200 still do it if your phone is not connected (turn off Bluetooth to test) ?
Did the phone book sychronise correctly (when connected) ?
Have you tried pairing without phonebook sync ( to test) ?
      Regards
      Philip

Where can I download the latest Software Update for my parrot MKI9200.

Would appreciate a link if possible

DO NOT “update” version 3 firmware – you will destroy the Parrot control box.

Please see this link for the updates to version 1 and 2 control boxes:

I have a 9200. The screen has stopped working. It sometimes connects to the phone and other times doesn’t, and the screen is sometimes on and sometimes off.

Do I need to replace the head, and if I do can i just plug the new one on?

Couple of things to check before replacing anything.
Find control box. If software label shows V1.00, V1.01 or V1.02 you will need the old display (very unlikely to find one). Do not put a newer version display on this control box version as it will destroy it.
Check with multimeter that you have 12V (red), Ignition (orange) and Ground (black) and these are not intermittent connections.
Also look at display cable & socket. There should be 5 pins on display cable and all should be same height in housing. Then check the pins on control box display port and make sure one is not pushed back. This issue causes intermittent re-starts on the MKi9200 – have seen it many times.

      Morning Mark,
I am assuming the handsfree audio comes through the front speakers and is working correctly.
The music output from the MKi9200 can be wired to use the Aux input on the car stereo. Whether this has been done depends on the vehicle make / model / year.
To set this option it is in Settings / Audio / Mute On Streaming and the box should be unticked. Remember to select Aux on car stereo for music playback.

If you are not able to use Aux / not wired to Aux input then Mute on Streaming should be ticked. The Mki9200 will then use it’s own amplifier and go directly to the car speakers.

Hi, my display turning off suddenly sometimes. Firm. V2.20. Dont know why.. Maybe display or power cabel?..

      Hello Tomas,
The MKi9200 will power down if the display is disconnected
      Couple of things to check:
      1. Check spring tension on Parrot fuseholders – they can be too weak ( pull spring apart slightly)
      2. Check display cable where it plugs into the control box. Make sure all the pins on control box socket are same height and the same goes for the 5 pins in the display lead.
      3. Depending on vehicle check wiring harness and connection for ignition on/off for poor joints / loose wires. If you find any scotch locks remove them and crimp or solder connection(s). Scotch locks are a great source of intermittent faults.

Check power feeds to MKi9200 control box. Red = permanent 12V, Orange = ignition 12V.
Check display cable pins are not pushed in.
If these are OK, suspect control box failure.

      Hello Mico,
What version of Mki9200 software did you update with ?

As part of the update the display firmware is also updated when the MKi9200 re-starts after the update and it’s possible that this corrupted it.
It is more likely to be a display fault that a control box error.
Without the MKi9200 starting up normally you cannot access any of the menus to perform a factory reset, though this would still not help the display issue.

      Hello Luis,
Unfortunately, you have a hardware issue which can only be resolved by replacing the faulty part – appears that it is the screen itself.
Please note that if you have a control box with V1.00, V1.0.1, V1.0.2 or V1.0.3 the replacement screen is no longer available and you MUST NOT use a screen from the new version as the control box will destroy it.
