How to reset a Parrot MKi9000

How to reset a Parrot MKi9000

This seems to be a common question, so here is the method to reset the Parrot MKi9000.

Sometimes it may be necessary to reset the MKi9000. Resetting will remove all paired devices and reset settings back to factory standard. It should be noted that “mute on streaming” option is not altered by a factory reset.

Please note that the remote control MUST be able to be used with the MKi9000. If the remote does not work you will not be able to reset the MKi9000. All MKi remotes contain a CR2032 battery and it is common for people to forget to change them – they typically last a year to 18 months in normal use.

Reset procedure:

1. Turn on the MKi9000 and wait about 20 seconds for the kit to fully turn on.

2. Press the centre button on the remote and rotate until you get to “Settings”. The MKi9000 will announce the options as you rotate the volume control

3. Press and hold the RED and GREEN buttons on the remote control for 2 to 3 seconds

4. The MKi9000 will now say “memory erasing in progress” and will then re-boot.

5. After the re-boot it may be necessary to set the language again. Simply select the required language by rotating the volume button and press remote control centre button to set the language. The MKi9000 will then re-boot again.

Different software versions of Parrot MKi9000’s may operate slightly differently. If you have a Version 2 control box you can update this to the latest version for that version – V2.20

If you have a version 3 control box you MUST NOT update the firmware. There are no updates for this version.

I have a MKI9000 it is NOS and has version 1.01b. When I try to update it to either 1.80,1.91,1.96 or higher it starts the update process but never seems to hinish. So after 15 min or so I turn off the car turn it on again and the MKI9000 comes back with the old version. Any hints what I could do? It works via bluetooth, but new ios devices through dock cable don‘t 🙁

Hello, thank you very much for miling this fw. If I change to english with 1.11, can i change back to german with a later fw(1.80, 1.96, 2.2)? Reading through Parrots comments it may leave your box in the language you switched to. Or is english regarded as the same zone as german and you can easily switch forth and back? (if you wish I can send you some german fw versions that I kept over the years, maybe you want to fill up your library ;-))

    HI,
I have a MIK9100 parrot and if I try to reset it with the remote control it stays in the “reset in progress, wait…” state but even after hours it doesn’t change or it’s no longer possible to exit the screen, I have to turn it off and on again. I would also like to update it but I can no longer find the link to download the latest firmware. Thank you very much

    Hello,
I have a parrot mki9000 that came with the car when i bought it. one day it just stopped turning on when ignition turned on. But when I turn ignition off a few lines come up on the display. I bought a new display but it does the same thing. Any advice please

      Morning Emma,
You do not have a MKi9000 as this does not have a display. It will be a MKi9200 or MKi9200.
As for the issue with it not turning on, it could be an issue with the display cable or control box.

Hi, I have a problem with my parrot since I changed the battery. I lost all sounds for music via bluetooth or USB and music or audio from my phone when using gps app. But the phone works perfectly via bluetooth.
I read about the “mute on streaming” that might be the reason. How do we activate or de-activate that fonction. Thanks

    01/02/2022 at 18:22
    • JustCarKits Reply

      Hello Mark,
To disable or enable “mute on Streaming” on the MKi9000:
Turn on the MKi9000 and wait 30 secs for power up.
On the remove press and hold both the Track Forward and Track Backward buttons for a couple of seconds. The Mki9000 will chirp to confirm success.

If the Mki9000 was installed using the line outs into the stereo Aux input mute on streaming will need to be disabled.
For normal operation where the MKi9000 drives speakers directly it must be enabled.

Hi, great website and thank you for all the information. I have a Parrot MKi9000 v1.20 i French! Is it possible to update the firmware and convert it to English please? Many thanks, Med

    • JustCarKits Reply

      Hello Med,
As long as you have a Zone 1 MKi9000 it will be possible to update the firmware with the English version. French was also available in Zone 2 product and these may not update. Parrot Zone information has long since disappeared on the Parrot website and I don’t have the Zone listings.
For your MKi9000 you would first need to update to V1.96 and could then go for V2.11 or V2.20

Please help before I throw the whole car away 😭 my parrot mki9200 kept playing with no sound every time I skipped a song so I’ve put the parrot back to factory reset…my phone now finds the parrot but when I put in the passcode it wont let me press ok to actually connect the parrot to the phone. I only have the “cancel” option or it just wont even let me get that far just says “cannot pair device”

    12/03/2021 at 19:42
    • JustCarKits Reply

      Couple of things:
Pairing mode is initiated from the mobile phone. Simply perform Bluetooth search from your phone and select the MKi9200. Enter the pass code on the phone (0000). Allow contact transfer, if asked.

Music: if you can play music from the phone turn up the music level to max. On the MKi9200 go into Settings / Audio and check the “Mute on Streaming” option is ticked (enabled). If not, press Centre button to enable.

    Hi
I had a Parrott MKi9000 v2.20 fitted by an authorised fitter via BMW on a 1 series (2010) but not with external controls or remote which works via the stearing wheel controls. When I try to pair my new phone, a very pleasant lady says the memory is full. I still have the leaflet from the fitter which says ‘ Press volume down button followed by volume up button 5 times’ to reset, but nothing. Can you help please

is it possible to reset the MKi9000 without the remote. I have a company vehicle that has a Parrot installed but the remote has been lost by someone else. I initially paired my phone but having no volume control has meant that this now becomes annoying. I have unpaired & forgotten connection via my phone.
Now every time i get in the vehicle I get a very loud “pairing failed” message repeated 3 times. I would really like to stop this happening.
    Thanks

      Hello Damian,

It is not possible to reset the MKi9000 without the remote, unless you have the Unika steering wheel interface (which you almost certainly don’t).
Parrot have discontinued the remote as a spare part, so only place to possibly find one is ebay

    Hi,
Thanks for the post it’s very instructive about versions compatibility. I have a mki9000 v1.91
It’s in Spanish and I would like to put it in French. The reset method does not work, I have no language choice at the re-boot. So I’d like to update it but I’ve never had the cable that goes with the kit. Is it possible to send the update file using Bluetooth or a “hand-made” cable? Thank you

    22/02/2020 at 13:42
    • JustCarKits Reply

      Hello Yoann,

The update must be performed using an update cable (the USB lead supplied with the MKi9100)
As you do not have the USB socket you could make one up (no pin out available) or purchase the original Parrot part
Unfortunately, we only have archived the English update files so cannot provide other languages

Do you sell such cable? On their website they sell cable without iPod connector and on the following page they say the only cable that works is the one with the iPod connector… It’s quite misleading

        • JustCarKits Reply

The USB socket is required for updating the Parrot MKi9000
You should be able to use either the new or old style USB lead. The 30 pin Apple connector does not matter.
Have not tried a new cable on an old control box, but the main wiring harness did not change so can’t think that Parrot altered the USB connections

Can confirm that the USB pinout on the new and old lead are the same

can I also downgrade it to v1.96 ??

if so do you still have this file ??

    27/09/2019 at 11:41
    • JustCarKits Reply

Downgrade to earlier versions can be done, but there are risks.

You definitely cannot go to a lower version than the one originally in the control box (on control box label).
Reverting a V2.xx to V1.96 or lower may break the control box – again depends on original firmware.

If a control box have V2.00 in it you can go to V2.02, V2.11 or V2.20 but you cannot install V1.96 or lower

Over the years Parrot changed the components in the control box and some of the versions are to support the newer components.

This depends on which Parrot model you have.
without screen can be a CK3000 Evo, MKi9000 or MK6000

CK3000 Evo – hold red and green buttons for a couple of seconds until you hear “memory erasing in progress”.

MKi9000 – hold red and green buttons for a couple of seconds until you hear “memory erasing in progress” After this Parrot will re-boot. When powered up again, rotate centre button to required language and press to confirm selection. Kit will then re-boot again and is the ready for pairing phone. Similar process fot the MK6000.

      Hello Robert,

As the MKi9000 does not have a screen to find out the version number you have to perform a search on your phone.
Simply go into Bluetooth on your phone and search for the Mki9000. When it is found you will get MKi9000 followed by V2.xx and this is the version number.
If your phone will not display the extra info, delete the current pairing and search again.

      Re-boot iPhone
Check Voice Recognition being used on MKi9200 in “Phone Menu”
